Belgae New Forest Ponies

Winter has now truly set in and the ponies are enjoying a well earned rest. Roll on Spring 2009!

A new arrival at Rochand this month. Dani and I went to the Beaulieu Road Sales (the auction sales used by New Forest Commoners to sell their ponies) and came came home with Busketts Pagan! Pagan is a chestnut New Forest Pony colt foal by Moortown Nobby. He is a well built, stocky, young man born and bred on the Forest. With his pedigree and athletic movement he ought to be able to turn his hoof to anything.

Monty and Alfie have been out clear round jumping this month. Below is a photo of Monty and Dani in the 2ft 9in class.

Below is a photograph of Ralphie G sent to us by Julie. Ralphie G is a 4 year old gelding by Goshka Ringo out of our Connemara mare, Kinlara Champagne Rose. By all accounts he is doing very well and has a wonderful easy temperment. Many thanks to Julie for sharing it with us.

The New Forest Ponies Sabina's Alfie Moon and Sabina's Montgomery are both available for loan to very special homes only. The Welsh Section 'A' pony, Cwmmeudwy Sion, is offered for sale. Please see our 'Ridden' page for details of all these ponies.

Fleetwater Cascade is being backed. She seems to be relishing the challenge and enjoying her work. We shall keep this page updated with her progress.

Rochand Bright Spark is still on box rest following his injury in the field two and a half months ago. Unfortunately, this has meant that he cannot be presented for grading this year. However, he is making good, if slow, progress and will be aimed at the 2009 SPSS grading.

Congratualtions to Lauren and her family on the purchase of the New Forest Pony gelding Stafford Gremlin II. Wishing you every success together.

Stafford Gremlin II (stable name 'Rolo') and Dani came fifth in the 2'6" Novice class at the West Hants PC Hunter Trial held on Shirley Common. It was a very large class and also Rolo's first HT competition - I think we can safely say he enjoys cross country!

Sabina's Alfie Moon has gone out on loan. Good luck Justine, we are sure you and Alfie are going to have lots of fun together.

Haywards Hennessy has been collected from his breeders, Mr P & Mrs A Pidgley. We are very excited about this young pony and are most grateful to Pete and Mandy for parting with their precious boy. For more information on Hennessy see the 'Youngstock' page.

An unplanned newcomer has joined the Arcenciel herd this month. He is name is Sabina's Montgomery. We have known 'Monty' for some years. He is a pure bred New Forest Pony and is full brother to our other New Forest gelding, Sabina's Alfie Moon. To read more about Monty go to the 'Ridden' page.

Christerence Arabella has been awarded a BEF/ British Breeding 'Broodmare Diploma' for Rochand Bright Spark (by Lumes) who gained First Place in the Yearling Pony and Small Horse section of the Baileys Horse Feeds / British Breeding Futurity Young Horse Evaluations. Rochand Bright Spark has been awarded a Special Premium Diploma in recognition of his achievment. Fleetwater Cascade has also been awarded a Special Premium Diploma for gaining Second Place in the Two Year Old Pony and Small Horse section.

The For Sale page has been updated. The Broodmares page has been updated to include Mandalin War Bonnet, a pony we dearly miss.

The BEF have released the Futurity 2007 Series “Top Threes”. We are extremely proud to report that for the second year running the top yearling pony belongs to Arcenciel Stud. Last year it was Fleetwater Cascade and this year the title goes to Rochand Bright Spark. Fleetwater Cascade has also made it on to this year's Top Threes List, being the second highest scoring two year old pony.

Rochand Bright Spark attended the BEF Futurity Young Horse Evaluations at Catherston Stud on 16th August. He was awarded a 1st Premium and was regional Champion Yearling Pony! Fleetwater Cascade also attended and was regional Champion 2 Year Old Pony.

Dani and Winnies Express won the Ponies (UK) Blue Chip Ridden Competition / Potential Dressage Pony class at The Dorset Charity Horse Show. They also took the championship for the section too.

Gilly's Surprise has gone away to stud where she will be covered by the New Forest Pony stallion Longcopse Elton.

The decision has been made. Our New Forest Pony mare, Gilly's Surprise, will be going to Longcopse Elton. Elton is a super little New Forest Pony stallion. In 2006 he was Forest bred champion at the NFPEC show and reserve overall New Forest Champion at the Young Farmers Show. His progeny are also doing well - last year no less than three of his progeny won their classes at the New Forest and Hampshire County Show. Outside the show ring he is also excelling at dressage. Elton is part of the NFPEC rural riders team which won the finals in Lincoln. Moreover, Elton's temperament is second to none.

The days are getting longer and the woolly ponies are coming back into work. No competitions until the Spring, but this year's breeding plans are being finalised - watch this space!
